Kennedy Center honors Dr. Margaret Pfanstiehl and the Paper Mill Playhouse
I recently had the opportunity to photograph an event at the Kennedy Center – the Leadership Exchange in Arts and Disability (LEAD) Conference and Awards.
One of the best parts of the evening was meeting Dr. Margaret Pfanstiehl, who has been instrumental in bringing audio description to the theater for those who are blind or visually impaired. She was honored by the Kennedy Center for her efforts.

Marcella – senior pictures
I went to college with Marcella’s mom – and hadn’t seen her for a number of years. We hooked up on Facebook – turns out she’s got a daughter who’s a senior in high school. (Find me on Facebook here.)
Her daughter has the same sparking personality as her mom, with the slight flair for the dramatic. We had a lot of fun doing her senior pictures along Carroll Creek in Frederick.

Shayna – senior pictures
I went to college with Shayna’s mom and dad – and we’ve been friends for years. Such great people – it’s not surprising they have a wonderful daughter, and when she became a senior in high school, I got the chance to photograph her senior pictures.
Some people just shine in front of the lens. See for yourself:

Caitlyn and Jamison
At Teresa and Jason’s wedding, the flower girl was adorable, and her brother was so cute. I had the chance to take the two of them aside and get some portraits.
Such gorgeous children. Their mother tells me they are available and interested in modeling!

Teresa and Jason, Married!
Well, the day finally came. After months of preparation, countless emails, and an invasion of relatives, Jason and Teresa became husband and wife.
The ceremony was gorgeous. The party – spectacular. These people know how to party. Props to Jack Bacorn of PHD Sound Systems for keeping the tunes flowing and the party rockin’. (more…)

VIDtychs – Swimming
You’ve heard of diptychs and triptychs?
A diptych is a set of two photographs, side by side. The reasoning is that the two photographs together mean more artistically than the two photographs individually – a mini-story in two frames, or an association. The same reasoning applies for triptychs – a series of three photographs.
A VIDtych is a series of short video clips, designed to tell a story greater than the individual clips themselves could.
Here’s one I put together at my daughter’s swim practice. Hit me in the comments, let me know what you think.

Meetup shots from 9/27
We recently had a meetup – a bunch of photographers and models, getting together to trade some time. We organized this through the DC/MD/Northern Virginia Strobist flickr forum.
I managed to get a couple of local Harley Davidson riders in the act, too. Fun stuff.

Maryland School for the Deaf Golf Tournament
Great day for golf. I don’t golf – but I’m delighted to take photos for the Foundation. The Foundation raises money for the school – because the school is state-funded, they cannot fundraise directly. The Foundation raises money on their behalf, then uses the money for equipment, scholarships, programs, etc.

Shooting seniors
Of course, we don’t “shoot” seniors – we photograph them.
I’m reminded of the joke about the new press photographer that shows up at the White House and says, “I’m here to shoot the President.”
Not a good day.
Anyway, we recently had the opportunity to work with Michelle – got some great shots for her senior pictures. Here’s my two favorites:
See more of her pictures over at the Portfolios section.
