We can cover your event … or we can transform your workshop or seminar into a DVD (or series of DVDs).

It all depends on what you want. Do you want a straightforward coverage of your wedding, mitzvah, or birthday party? Then we can come in, tape the event, and turn it into a DVD.

Do you teach workshops or seminars, and you want to produce a DVD from that? Then we should talk about it.

Many people get a video camera, and attempt to tape a workshop. The challenge is that a workshop is a complex multimedia experience – there are other participants in the room, there might be slides on a screen, there might be props, questions from the audience … There might be any number of things that come into play when you are learning the material presented by the speaker.

We have extensive experience with this, and our goal is to not just tape the workshop, and make a DVD – but instead to provide equivalent access to the information presented in the workshop. Sometimes this means doing extra things outside of the workshop – diagrams, voice-overs, still photos, additional files made available for download, and more.

Our goal is that a person watching your DVD gets all the information that they would have gotten, if they had been in the room.

A one-day workshop can become weeks of post-production, especially with the inclusion of still photos, projected slides, voice overs, cutaway shots, and more.

It’s really hard to make a video portfolio – and the only practical use of such a thing is to submit to a company in search of a staff position.

But at the same time, as an independent studio, we do have to prove to potential customers that we can do the job. Sometimes we just send them samples of our past work – which is good – but a sample can only show a specific set of skills; there’s also the point that the viewer has to watch a significant amount of video in order to see all the techniques which they may have on their mental checklist before they’re satisfied that we can do the work.

So, here’s a sampling of some projects that we’ve done. If you want DVD samples, let us know. After each project description, I outline the roles that I did for the project.

This featured four different ladies, in a variety of rooms throughout the model home.

Project Title: The Strobist Seminar Series

Description: I worked with David Hobby, of www.strobist.com, to turn his photography small flash off-camera lighting seminar into a DVD. His all-day seminar became 4 DVDs in length, and included screenshots from his projected slide presentation, still pictures, captured images from his camera (part of his seminar is to photograph actual seminar attendees, demonstrating lighting techniques).

In addition to the seminar, there are a number of bonus shoots – where David went out as a photographer, and actually took photographs of subjects, demonstrating the techniques that he teaches in his seminar. This totaled 3 additional DVDs. Finally, there was a DVD that focused on gear that he uses, for photography beginners – for a grand total of 8 DVDs.

Roles: Co-Producer & Co-Director (with David Hobby), Videographer, Video Editor
